POLL: Do You Go Sleeveless?

IMG_1259
You know what's tough? Getting dressed for work when it is 100+ degrees outside! I'm thanking the good lord that St. Louis finally caught a break from this heat. (We're in the 80s this week! Makes me want to go on a bike ride! Now.... if only I had a bike.)

Do you ever go sleeveless at the office? Is this ensemble work appropriate?

I hope so.... because I wore it last Wednesday.

dress, sandals from Target. brown button-up vest from Old Navy (I think). belt found in my closet. assorted bracelets.

Bye Bye Muny

[Excuse my lame Bye Bye Birdie reference.]

So last two performances of the season were.... varied.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers was the best of the season and will be on my all time favorites list (joining Aida, Miss Saigon, Show Boat, Annie Get Your Gun, Singin in the Rain....). I was skeptical because I didn't know the story, but briefly- Boy meets girl. Boy falls for girl. Boy marries girl (all in one day). Boy brings girl home where she meets his clan of brothers who also need some womanly influence in their lives. They decide to kidnap - yes, kidnap - girls to fill said role. Hmmm. Weird story, yes? But the dancing, oh the dancing! It was so goooooooood. I was literally on the edge of my seat with a smile on my face the whole time.

Also helps that it takes place in the mountains out West (Utah maybe?) and the sets all reminded me of Colorado.

Bye Bye Birdie was.... bad. Sorry. I didn't like it. As it started, I was getting my hopes up because I realized it is the first live musical I remember seeing as a kid - at the St. Simon's 8th grade play. I was maybe in first or second grade at the oldest. But, man, what a disappointment. Birdie is weird. Weird music. Weird story. Just weird. And I don't recommend seeing it if you are under the age of 40.

Let me explain- There are some shows that are timeless. And there are some that you see listed in the back of the Muny program and think, 'Why don't they show that one anymore?' Birdie is going to be one of those musicals I think. I mean, it has an entire song about Ed Sullivan! I'm not vapid. I get Ed Sullivan references. I get Conrad Birdie is sort of like Elvis, and he's great (in fact, 'Honestly, Sincere' is probably one of the best Muny performances I've ever seen, even though the whole show overall was a bust for me). But there were other references that I totally did not get. During the Ed Sullivan song, I look around and see everyone (over the age of 40) is laughing. And I think it is lame. I heard my grandma say, 'Oh that's so funny' more than once and my aunt something about 'when [she] was 19.' When I'm the adult.... Who is going to go see (and love) Bye Bye Birdie?

So the season is all said and done. If I were to rank this seasons shows (best to worst) it would be....
1. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
2. Little Shop of Horrors
3. Singin in the Rain
4. Little Mermaid
5. Legally Blonde
6. Bye Bye Birdie
7. Kiss Me Kate

Another summer passed us. Sadface. And Paul Blake, who has produced 22 seasons at the Muny is leaving. Double sadface.

Thank God for the internet.

I told you Monday I was in sort of a funk, but thanks to Google (yes, I googled 'style a denim shirt' yesterday) and Pinterest, finding inspiration to get dressed has been slightly easier. See these pins and more on my Getting Dressed board.

{1} denim shirt from Walmart. jeans, sandals from Target. gold cuff and watch. {2} striped dress and brown purse from Target. jacket from Ann Taylor. assorted bracelets. aviators from Forever 21. (also wearing my tan sandals from Target)

In The Navy

This was me last Monday (Again, with the backlog. Apologies. I'm trying to get caught up so I promised myself no new photos this week. We'll see if it works). I guess I was feeling 'navy' because that was the color of all the options I had picked out. Ever have days like that?

I sort of feel like I'm in a funk. I realized last week that it happens approximately every two months. I did my first 30x30 in February, and then got the itch again at the end of April. Megan and I did one in May, and then at the end of July, I was bored again. Maybe I should do Kayla's 21 Day Challenge. Maybe I should dress like a Glitter Girl. Or maybe I find a new hobby other than taking pictures of myself and posting them on the internet.

Friday Favorite

There are some places that just scream weekend to me. One of those is Broadway Oyster Bar. Maybe it's the music. Or the twinkle lights. Or being able to sit on a patio year-round. Or (most likely) it's the number of late nights I've spent there with my friends drinking Budwesier.

Last Friday Night

(By the way, I hate that I just took inspiration from that stupid Katy Perry song.)

Take this as more proof that I actually wear heels from time to time. And more proof that Maverick loves getting in the way of my outfit photos. Apparently, me standing in the middle of the room smiling means it is time to play...

I wore this last Friday night out for dinner and drinks at Atomic Cowboy in the Grove (and later, Broadway Oyster Bar downtown). I love Atomic Cowboy, I love the Grove... but unfortunately my friend got mugged walking back to her car. I know stuff like that can happen anywhere. In fact, it is actually crazy that it happened to her because there were a bunch of other people and bike cops around the area at the time! Not to mention, she was parked way closer to the main street than I was. I walked a whole block and around the corner to my car, by myself, with no problems. It was definitely a wrong place, wrong time, completely unfortunate incident. But just remember (please!) to avoid walking around by yourself late at night, no matter how safe you think the area is or how close you're parked. It just isn't worth it.
